America’s Christian CU, Glendora, Calif., will be celebrating its 60th anniversary throughout 2018. Separately, ACCU partnered with three local charities: the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services, McKinley Children’s Center and Shepherd’s Pantry.

'Helping Makes U Happy'

Suffolk FCU, Medford, N.Y., hosted its 9th Annual Food Drive to benefit Helping Makes U Happy. In addition, the CU donated $3,000 in support of Suffolk County Crime Stoppers, gave $1,000 to the Miller Place Fire Department and contributed pre-school supplies to the Southampton Head Start program in Riverside.

Kids-N-Hope

Philadelphia-based American Heritage CU’s Kids-N-Hope Banquet and Golf Classic raised $53,480 to benefit the credit union’s Kids-N-Hope Foundation. Separately, AHCU donated $110,000 to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to support its Music Therapy Program.

Record donation

State Employees’ CU, Raleigh, N.C., again joined efforts with North Carolina state employees in providing financial support for charities through the State Employees Combined Campaign. Pledges and donations from SECU employees totaled more than $101,000 – a record annual amount.

Help for the homeless

Employees of Tarrant County’s CU, Fort Worth, Texas, performed their annual give back to the Presbyterian Night Shelter. In lieu of a meeting, staffers made peanut butter sandwiches for the shelter, which is the largest provider of services to the county’s homeless.

SPIRE keeps it cool

SPIRE Credit Union, St. Paul, Minn., partnered with the 2018 St. Paul Winter Carnival and the building of an Ice Palace. The seven-story structure featured six ice spires representing each of the members of the Winter Carnival Royal Family. It was built by local union contractors with 4,000 blocks of ice weighing 500 lbs. each, trucked in from a lake in the Spicer/New London area.

Supporting area nonprofits

3Rivers CU, Fort Wayne, Ind., distributed more than $56,000 in grants at a check presentation ceremony, in conjunction with its 3Rivers’ Give Back initiative. The checks were awarded to three nonprofits: H.O.P.E for Animals, Visiting Nurse and Camp Red Cedar.

Supporting the CU museum

Members First CU, Manchester, N.H., pledged $15,000 to America’s Credit Union Museum, also in Manchester. The funding will support the Museum’s Legacy Fund, a three-year capital campaign with a goal of raising $3.3 million to create a new industry research center, expand exhibit space and provide renovations to the existing building.

Del-One donates

Del-One FCU, Dover, Del., and its Del-One Foundation donated $2,000 to the 321foundation, which assists families with children born with Down Syndrome. Separately, the CU donated 70 pairs of pajamas to Enzo’s Pajama Drive for HOPE to benefit local boys and girls in need.

Celebrating community engagement

Hoosier Hills CU, Bedford, Ind., held a celebration for all of the Community Projects it supports each year. The 28 organizations and families supported by HHCU employees include Becky’s Place, Blackhawk Blessing, the Humane Society, Relay for Life, food pantries, plus several organizations serving families, youth and the elderly.

Altura CU, Riverside, Calif., donated $1,500 worth of shoes, socks, underwear and other basic items to the students of Liberty Elementary School.

Save the clock tower!

First Alliance CU, Rochester, Minn., donated $10,000 to the Rochester Fire Department to help bring the clock tower and bell back to Fire Station #1 on Broadway. First Alliance's gift allowed the Fire Department to raise $100,000 in order to receive a matching grant from Alan Calvano, whose last wish was to rescue the 1899 four-sided Seth Thomas Clock and Bell.
