SacTown success

The seventh annual Credit Union SacTown Run raised $200,000 for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in California and Nevada. The event was sponsored by CU Miracle Day, Inc., along with 74 credit unions and credit union businesses. More than 1,700 runners—half of which were credit union employees and members—participated.

Sixty years of Service

Service CU marked its 60th anniversary by reporting record numbers in membership and assets during its annual meeting in Portsmouth, N.H. The CU recognized two longtime volunteers who retired at the end of the 2016 with crystal awards: Barbara Roberge and Ronald Smith.

TTCU's ribbon cutting

TTCU The Credit Union hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new corporate office in Tulsa, Okla., just 17 months after groundbreaking. With its technological infrastructure, advanced training centers and innovation-inspiring environment, TTCU said the six-story, 90,000-square-foot facility is a key to its long-term strategy to recruit and retain the best talent.

PenFed at the Cherry Blossom Run

Seasoned runners and beginners alike from PenFed CU, Tysons, Va., took to the streets of our nation’s capital for the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk. More than 100 PenFed employees volunteered their time or ran in the Cherry Blossom races.

Readers' choice

North Iowa Community CU, Mason City, Iowa, was named Globe Gazette Readers’ Choice for Best Credit Union by its community and the Globe Gazette, its local newspaper. The CU’s tellers were honored to receive honorable mention for Best Bank/Credit Union Tellers.

In response to a community-wide blood shortage, employees of Louisiana FCU, LaPlace, La., donated 25 pints of blood in four hours.

MECU grants

Municipal Employees CU of Baltimore funded 65 grants to neighborhood associations and community-based nonprofits around the Baltimore area. The MECU Neighborhood Event Grant program provides monetary awards of up to $1,000 to groups seeking to host community events such as block parties, neighborhood clean-ups and health fairs.

Desjardins recognition

Firefly CU, Burnsville, Minn., won the first place national 2016 Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award for its Learn@Work program, which advanced to the national competition after winning Minnesota statewide honors.

Jeanne D'Arc gives back

In Lowell, Mass., more than 430 Lowell High School and Greater Lowell Technical High School seniors got quite the reality check at Jeanne D’Arc CU’s 7th annual MoneyStrong for Life Fair. Separately, the CU’s first Give-A-Click campaign of 2017 gave $1,500 to Marguerite’s Place.
