Ent expands

Colorado Springs-based Ent CU hosted a ribbon-cutting for its 29th location, this one in Castle Rock, Colo. The 5,000-square-foot facility is Ent’s second service center in Douglas County. Separately, Ent entered into a naming rights agreement/sponsorship of the Ent Center for the Arts, a 92,000-square-foot performing and visual arts complex at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs campus, and Ent collected 2,553 lbs. of food for area food banks.

80 acts of kindness for 80 years

St. Helens Community CU, St. Helens, Ore., is celebrating its 80th anniversary by performing 80 acts of kindness per month throughout 2018. The first 80 items were backpacks loaded with pens, paper, notebooks and other school supplies for teens in foster care.

TruStone's fundraising efforts

The Wisconsin-based employees of TruStone Financial FCU, Plymouth, Minn., raised $1,000 for American Legion Post 21 of Kenosha, Wis. Separately, TruStone employees raised $670 for Ronald McDonald House Charities, and the TruStone Financial Foundation matched those funds dollar-for-dollar for a total donation of $1,340.

Financial Empowerment Day

Kinecta FCU, Manhattan Beach, Calif., hosted a Financial Empowerment Day with 70 students from Da Vinci Extension. The recent high school grads had the opportunity to spend the day at Kinecta touring the main office’s Member Service Center, learning about budgeting and building a better understanding of how CUs operate. Separately, Team Kinecta partnered with the Thomas House Family Center for a Beautification Project, building bikes for kids.

Employees of New Horizons CU, Mobile, Ala., presented a check for more than $300 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, representing fundraising efforts including special jeans days and lobby collection jars.

Y-12 FCU, Oak Ridge, Tenn., and its Y-12 Gives Foundation donated $3,000 to Blossom Center for Childhood Excellence Incorporated, a Y-12 FCU business member.

Making a difference at Mid-Hudson Valley FCU

Mid-Hudson Valley FCU, Kingston, N.Y., donated $1,500 to Family of Woodstock, which provides crisis intervention, and $1,000 to the Woodstock Fire Department Company #5, which said the gift will enable it to do equipment upgrades and EMT training.

That's a lot of socks!

Public Service CU, Lone Tree, Colo., delivered 7,238 pairs of donated socks to several Colorado homeless shelters. Why socks? Socks are the most requested clothing item, according to the Salvation Army. Last year, PSCU collected more than 3,000 pairs of socks. This year, the CU doubled that amount during its Annual Sock Drive.

Pentagon FCU, Tysons, Va., celebrated the grand opening of its new West Point Army and Air Force Exchange Services branch and made a $25,000 donation to West Point’s Cyber Research Center. Separately, PenFed and Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C., celebrated the completion of nine homes in Northeast and Southeast D.C.

Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., received the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Corporate Citizen Award, given to a company demonstrating strong involvement to better the quality of life in the Greater Springfield area. Separately, Andrews FCU honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at a special observance in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Changing the narrative on foster care

America’s Christian CU, Glendora, Calif., participated in a week’s worth of foster care and adoption-related events, including joining forces with the L.A. Dream Center, Olive Crest and Bishop W.C. Martin. All focused on changing the narrative regarding the foster care system in greater Los Angeles, a region holding 35,000 foster children, more than any other city in the nation.

Rocky Hill, Conn.-based Nutmeg State Financial CU hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its newest location in the Stratford ShopRite. State and local leaders joined members of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council and the Stratford Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the official grand opening of the CU’s first location in Fairfield County.
