Health care grant

Y-12 FCU, Oak Ridge, Tenn., and its Y-12 Gives Foundation donated $2,000 to InterFaith Health Clinic, a not-for-profit health care ministry that serves the low-income, working uninsured and underserved. The grant will provide one month of laboratory services to uninsured and underserved patients at the clinic.

Robins Financial CU, Warner Robins, Ga., sponsored the Macon Volunteer Medical Clinic by contributing to the Sporting Clay Fun Shoot. This event will be part of the clinic’s celebration of 15 years of providing healthcare to those in need in Bibb County.

US Postal Service FCU, Clinton, Md., sponsored its first Millionaire's Club financial literacy program, this one at IDEA Public Charter School, Washington, D.C. The students at IDEA now have access to a program designed to prepare them for success and financial independence.

Athletic sponsorship

Georgia United CU, Duluth, Ga., announced an expanded partnership with the Georgia Tech Athletic Association as the Official Credit Union of Georgia Tech athletics. This sponsorship, which began in 2015, focuses on a co-branded debit card initiative that is new to both the school and Georgia United.

Pet rescue donation

Kinecta FCU, Manhattan Beach, Calif., donated a total of $3,319.96 to nonprofit pet rescue organization Whiskers and Tails Foundation. Employees sold homemade salsa and breakfast burritos to other staffers, and then Kinecta matched the $1,659.98 raised.

Hospital donations

For the eighth consecutive year, patients at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and Children’s Hospital of Orange County will get toys throughout the year thanks to San Diego County CU. SDCCU’s members and employees donated more than 1,600 toys to more than double last year’s donation for the credit union’s annual Toy Drive. Separately, SDCCU again was named one of San Diego’s Best and Brightest in Wellness by the National Association for Business Resources.

Knoxville, Tenn.-based Knoxville TVA Employees CU broke ground in Maryville, Tenn., on what will become the 21st branch within its East Tennessee service area. Separately, the CU held a Facebook giveaway that reached more than 1.1 million users and had 19,675 likes.

People's CU, Middletown, R.I., received the Friends of 4-H award. The award recognized the CU’s sponsorship of the University of Rhode Island's Rhody Rams Men's Basketball's People's Credit Union 3 Point Co-op Shot, in which a donation was given for every 3-pointer made at a home game.

Dow Chemical Employees’ CU, Midland, Mich., held a donation drive in partnership with Hidden Harvest to benefit families in Bay, Midland, Saginaw and Gladwin counties. Over five weeks, DCECU collected baskets full of food and personal care items.

Anaheim-based Credit Union of Southern California opened a new branch in La Habra, Calif., with assistance from the La Habra Chamber of Commerce. The branch formerly was part of Pacific Community CU, and was rebranded after a merger. It includes a virtual teller.

Army Aviation Center FCU, Daleville, Ala., won three awards from the League of Southeastern Credit Unions among CUs in Alabama and Florida with $1 billion or more in assets: the Desjardins Financial Education Youth Award, the Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award and the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award.
