Paper lanterns

In preparation for Lowell’s First Annual Points of Light Floating Lantern Celebration, employees of Jeanne D’Arc CU, Lowell, Mass., gathered for a Paint Night, where each employee used his/her artistic talents to paint a paper lantern. These and hundreds of other lanterns were released as part of the celebration.

More than 2,800 service hours

TBA Credit Union, Traverse City, Mich., was the winner of the Paul Bunyan Chapter Challenge. Five CUs completed more than 2,865 hours of volunteer service in six months. TBACU won by having the highest average number of volunteer hours per team member: 15 hours.

Youth Financial Advisory Board wraps up

In York, Pa., First Capital FCU’s Youth Financial Advisory Board held its final meeting for the 2016-2017 school year. During the four sessions held over two months, 15 York County high school students participated. Separately, First Capital donated $650 to the Salvation Army of York.

PSECU rallies to stop child abuse

The voices of children ringing out at Pennsylvania’s State Capitol made a powerful plea for child abuse prevention during the first PA Blue Ribbon Champion Awards Ceremony and Rally for Kids. The event was organized by Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance, a child protection organization, and sponsored by PSECU, Harrisburg, Pa.

Hoops for Hunger

For the third consecutive year, 1st United CU, Pleasanton, Calif., teamed up with 95.7 The GAME to support the Alameda County Community Food Bank through the NBA’s Golden State Warriors’ “Hoops for Hunger” program. The CU donated $1 for every basket the Warriors made during the regular season: a total of $3,532 to the Food Bank.

In California, firefighters of the Rialto Fire Department collected $40,000 for their annual Fire Boot Fill Up. For three years, the Rialto Fire Department has partnered with Fire Family Foundation, the charitable hand of Los Angeles-based Firefighters First CU, for its Community Fund.

Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., once again partnered with the Armed Forces Financial Network to present $5,000 in gift cards to families living at the Fisher House. Separately, Andrews sponsored CIT Training in Burlington, N.J., to bridge policing tactics used when dealing with veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
