Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker visited Eau Claire-based Royal CU’s North High School student-run office, also in Eau Claire. Gov. Walker was there to learn more about the Eau Claire Area School District’s apprenticeship program, and he took a selfie with student tellers.

Fighting PTSD
Jeanne D’Arc CU, Lowell, Mass., gave $1,500 to Hidden Battles, which works to preserve the healthy minds of veterans, fire fighters, police officers and first responders who struggle with PTSD, job-related stress, traumatic brain injuries and the struggles of reentering civilian life.

The staff of Hawaii Community FCU, Kailua Kona, donated $15,000 during the Hawaii Island United Way annual employee campaign. The monies will benefit Hawaii Islanders through such community impact initiatives as education, health and financial stability.

Financial literacy award
Educators CU, Mount Pleasant, Wis., received the Governor’s Financial Literacy Award for its work providing financial literacy in the classroom. The CU supplies local schools with digital learning program EverFi, and students use the program to learn about important financial topics.

New stuffed friends
Employees of True Sky CU, Oklahoma City, Okla., collected more than 100 stuffed animals to donate to The C.A.R.T House, a non-profit that provides a child friendly, home-like atmosphere for children and their non-offending caregivers in an active abuse investigation.

San Antonio-based Security Service FCU and its Charitable Foundation donated $5,000 to the Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center to support its Veterans Integration Program. VIP helps members of the military and their family transition to civilian life through employment and education resources, along with workshops and networking opportunities.

Hurricane relief donation
First Capital FCU, York, Pa., donated $1,215 to the National CU Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund, CUAid. raises money for credit union people affected by major disasters such as the California wildfires, Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and Tropical Storm Harvey.

Care for kids
Philadelphia-based American Heritage CU committed $60,000 over a five-year period to Doylestown Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery. The nursery offers Level 2 neonatal intensive care for infants who require additional care due to illness or prematurity. Separately, the CU’s mortgage services subsidiary donated $3,000 to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.

New year, new babies
Belco Community CU, Harrisburg, Pa., took part in welcoming 10 area New Year’s babies by partnering with local hospitals. Belco donated a gift basket to the parents of the first baby born in the New Year at each hospital.

Consumers CU opened its new, HOK-designed headquarters in Kalamazoo, Mich. Nearly 150 employees previously working in four separate buildings moved into a 22-acre collaboration center situated among rolling hills and wooded ravines.
Promoting financial literacy for students
St. Joseph’s FCU, Canton, Ohio, donated Ramsey Solutions’ Foundations in Personal Finance curriculum to Louisville High School. Foundations in Personal Finance is a curriculum for teaching financial literacy to students.
