For the fifth consecutive year, Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., was a sponsor for the United States Air Force & Navy Joint Ball held at the Chateau De La Rocq, located in Arquennes, Belgium.
CDFI certification in Seattle
Seattle CU obtained its certification from the US Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund. This certification enables Seattle CU to apply for programs and grants that can help grow and serve the Seattle community through funding of key initiatives.
First of its kind
PSECU hosted public and private sector partners at its headquarters in Harrisburg, Pa., for the announcement of an innovative, new Financial Reality Fair program aimed at reducing inmate recidivism – which the credit union said is the first of its kind in the nation.
Maxwell and Herring honors for Vantage West
Vantage West CU, Tucson, Ariz., won first place in the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award and first place in the Louise Herring Philosophy-In-Action Member Service Award (Over $1B Asset Category).
The big 6-0!
Oscoda, Mich.-based Northland Area FCU celebrated its 60th birthday at its 15 branches in northeast Michigan. Northland commemorated the occasion at the Oscoda headquarters near the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base, where the CU was born in 1957 thanks to a small group of Air Force men and women and $100 in deposits.
New branch
Tampa, Fla.-based USF Federal Credit Union opened a new, state-of-the-art branch near Interstate 75 in New Tampa. The fully redesigned branch features the latest in eco-friendly building technology, a large community room, and an interactive layout. More importantly, it will better position USF FCU to reach members throughout the growing New Tampa area.

Branch expansion continues
GECU’s branch expansion continued as it opened the doors of its 25th branch, this one in its headquarters city, El Paso, Texas. The much-anticipated branch opened in the heart of Central El Paso, the first of its kind in the historic neighborhood.
Putting the 'Focus' on educators
Houston-based Cy-Fair FCU awarded a brand new Ford Focus to Dana Herzog of Yeager Elementary during the Cy-Fair Education Foundation’s Salute to the Stars gala. Local principals selected more than 90 “Spotlight Honorees” for their outstanding dedication to students, and those folks were entered into a drawing for the car.
CCUA honors excellence at Hanscom FCU
Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., received an Award of Excellence for its financial education program from the Cooperative CU Association. Highlights include formal classes to high school and vocational training students. Separately, the CU’s Foundation gave $100,000 to Home Base, a partnership of the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Remodel ribbon cutting and open house
Haxtun Community FCU, Haxtun, Colo., performed a major remodel of its office. The original building, formerly a small restaurant, had old tin ceiling tiles that were effectively incorporated into the design. The project hired all local contractors. When finished, the CU celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce and an all-day open house.
