Freedom run

The Sixth Annual German Credit Union Freedom Ten Mile Run, sponsored by Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., took place at the Wiesbaden Army Garrison. Separately, Andrews FCU made a donation to the Friends of Burlington County Animal Shelter, sent representatives to SHAPE American Middle School for “Take Over School Day” and it assembled meal bags for students at Lynbrook Elementary in Springfield, Va.

San Antonio-based Security Service FCU’s Charitable Foundation made a $5,000 donation to Upward Transitions in Helotes, Texas, which provides a therapeutic horsemanship program for individuals with physical, mental and/or emotional health challenges.

Savings challenge

State Employees’ CU, Raleigh, N.C., challenged its youngest members to save for their future through the CU’s Youth Saving Challenge Contest. Nearly 25,500 FAT CAT and Zard members deposited more than $5.2 million into their savings accounts and opened more than 900 new youth accounts during the week-long event. Separately, SECU tax preparers filed 109,000 federal and state returns for members, saving them $13 million in tax preparation fees.

Stoltz delivers keynote

Dan Stoltz, president and CEO of SPIRE CU, St. Paul, Minn., provided the keynote address at a Saint Paul Rotary Club meeting. In a program entitled, “Building a Brand with a Pickup Truck,” Stoltz explored the building of the SPIRE brand using an early-model Ford work truck.

Credit Union of Ohio held its second annual free Shred Day at its Hilliard, Ohio, headquarters. The community brought an estimated 16,000 lbs. of personal documents to be carefully destroyed during the two-hour event, up about 2,000 lbs. from last year.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development named Nusenda Foundation, a nonprofit launched by Nusenda CU, as one 2017 HUD Secretary’s Award for Public-Philanthropic Partnerships for its role in supporting the acceleration of job creation and economic mobility in Albuquerque, N.M.

Reality Fair partnership

Clearview FCU, Moon Township, Pa., and West-Aircomm FCU, Beaver, Pa., partnered to host a Financial Reality Fair at Moon Area High School. Approximately 550 students from the junior and senior classes attended, as well as a few students from the nearby Quaker Valley LifeSkills program, to learn more about money management on a realistic budget.

Dutch Point CU, Wethersfield, Conn., is partnering with the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation with a loan donation program. For every loan made in 2017, Dutch Point will donate $5 to the Foundation.
