Curbing learning loss during the summer

In support of the Greater Lowell YMCA’s mission to curb summer learning loss, Jeanne D’Arc CU, Lowell, Mass., held an organization-wide book collection that netted 350 books. Separately, the CU awarded a total of $15,000 in scholarships to 24 students.

Michigan State University FCU, East Lansing, Mich., received the 2016 Company Volunteer of the Year award from the Capital Area United Way. During 2016, MSUFCU employees raised more than $194,000 for the CAUW and Small Talk Children’s Assessment Center.

CU at the car show!

American Heritage CU and 98.1 WOGL held their Annual Car Show, Craft Show and Member Appreciation Day at the CU’s headquarters in Philadelphia. The show raised more than $10,000 for the credit union’s Kids-N-Hope Foundation, which supports the Music Therapy Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Keesler breaks ground

Gulfport, Miss.-based Keesler FCU officially broke ground on its new branch in Petal, Miss. The branch, which will be located on Evelyn Gandy Parkway, just west of a Walmart Supercenter, is slated to open in December.

Platinum award winners

WESTconsin CU, Menomonie, Wis., won the 2016 Platinum Million Dollar Lender Award from the USDA Guaranteed Rural Housing Program. In fiscal year 2016, the CU used $6 million in GRH program funds to help moderate-income families in Wisconsin.

RTN assists at soup kitchen

In Waltham, Mass., the RTN Federal Credit Union Employees Community Outreach Committee sponsored and served dinner for close to 60 men and women at the Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen. The Lodge is one of the non-profit organizations and charities in local communities the Committee supports annually through personal donations and contributions of free time.

Race for the Cure sponsorship

SPIRE CU, Falcon Heights, Minn., sponsored KS95 Team Moon and Staci at the 2017 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. More than $1 million was raised this year, and nearly $17 million in cancer research grants have been awarded throughout the past 25 years of this event.

Service branches out

Portsmouth, N.H.-based Service CU celebrated the opening of its newest branch inside Cheshire Medical Center in Keene. The grand opening included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Keene Mayor Kendall Lane and Christine Schon, the hospital’s chief operating officer.

Expansion plans

America’s First FCU is expanding its headquarters in downtown Birmingham, Ala. In addition to a new, four-story tower that will adjoin the existing building, the project will provide expanded employee parking and site enhancements to the overall campus.

CU steps up for fire victims

MERCO CU, Merced, Calif., responded to the Detwiler Fire in nearby Mariposa County. MERCO’s branch in the city of Mariposa had to be evacuated for two days. When the evacuation was lifted MERCO’s response team (pictured) reinstalled computers and reactivated ATMs. The CU donated $3,000 and created a Fire Relief Emergency Loan to assist fire victims.
