Sikorsky lights the way

Sikorsky CU, Stratford, Conn., contributed $2,000 to the “Light the Way” initiative, in which local businesses sponsored 20 lighthouse sculptures that were decorated by local artists and placed along Main Street for the summer.

Grand prize winner

Allison Sciarratta, a member of Naveo CU, Somerville, Mass., was the grand prize winner of the annual Cooperative Credit Union Association’s 7th & 8th Grade Student Essay Contest. Sciarratta was selected as the winner out of nearly 800 entries from across the state.

Unity One awards scholarships

Unity One CU, Fort Worth, Texas, named Reed Wagner, graduating senior of Fossil Ridge High School, as the 2017 Bob Bennett Memorial Scholarship recipient. Wagner will receive $1,000 to aid with his college expenses at the University of Texas at Arlington. Unity One also awarded $250 book scholarships to two runners-up.

For the 4th consecutive year, TopLine FCU, Maple Grove, Minn., is sponsoring the Power of Produce Kids Club. At each Maple Grove Farmers Market, June to October, children ages 4 to 12 can join the free PoP Club. Benefits include a reusable shopping bag, a PoP punch card, and a weekly $2 market token to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables or food-bearing plants.

RTN Federal Credit Union, Waltham, Mass., hosted a Business Networking Event at LeLacheur Park, home field of the Lowell Spinners. RTN brought together representatives of its select employer groups and business affiliates for an evening of networking, barbecue and baseball fun, with the Spinners playing the Vermont Lake Monsters.

Sun East FCU, Aston, Pa., doled out several honors, including 12 students receiving “People Helping People” awards for their community service efforts, and, to two children or grandchildren of Sun East employees, the Sun East Employee Student Education Award for their commitment to community service. The CU has given $150,000 in student and teacher awards over 13 years.

The League of Southeastern CUs announced the recipients of the LSCU Awards during the 2017 Southeast Credit Union Conference. CU of the Year (up to $100 million in assets) was TMH FCU, Tallahassee, Fla., (pictured). Other CUs of the Year were Keys FCU, Key West, Fla., ($100 million to $500 million) and America’s First FCU, Birmingham, Ala. ($500 million+).
