Sikorsky lights the way
Sikorsky CU, Stratford, Conn., contributed $2,000 to the “Light the Way” initiative, in which local businesses sponsored 20 lighthouse sculptures that were decorated by local artists and placed along Main Street for the summer.
Grand prize winner
Allison Sciarratta, a member of Naveo CU, Somerville, Mass., was the grand prize winner of the annual Cooperative Credit Union Association’s 7th & 8th Grade Student Essay Contest. Sciarratta was selected as the winner out of nearly 800 entries from across the state.
Unity One awards scholarships
Unity One CU, Fort Worth, Texas, named Reed Wagner, graduating senior of Fossil Ridge High School, as the 2017 Bob Bennett Memorial Scholarship recipient. Wagner will receive $1,000 to aid with his college expenses at the University of Texas at Arlington. Unity One also awarded $250 book scholarships to two runners-up.
Patriot Week donation
America’s Christian CU, Glendora, Calif., donated $700, the proceeds from its Patriot Week festivities, to American Legion Riders Chapter 835.
Power of produce
For the 4th consecutive year, TopLine FCU, Maple Grove, Minn., is sponsoring the Power of Produce Kids Club. At each Maple Grove Farmers Market, June to October, children ages 4 to 12 can join the free PoP Club. Benefits include a reusable shopping bag, a PoP punch card, and a weekly $2 market token to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables or food-bearing plants.
Gift card giveaway

Baseball, barbecue and networking
RTN Federal Credit Union, Waltham, Mass., hosted a Business Networking Event at LeLacheur Park, home field of the Lowell Spinners. RTN brought together representatives of its select employer groups and business affiliates for an evening of networking, barbecue and baseball fun, with the Spinners playing the Vermont Lake Monsters.
Sun East hands out awards
Sun East FCU, Aston, Pa., doled out several honors, including 12 students receiving “People Helping People” awards for their community service efforts, and, to two children or grandchildren of Sun East employees, the Sun East Employee Student Education Award for their commitment to community service. The CU has given $150,000 in student and teacher awards over 13 years.
Army Ball sponsorship
Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., sponsored the 2017 U.S. Army Ball, held at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Belgium. Separately, the CU served as Presenting Sponsor for 2017 Springfield Days, a community-wide celebration in Springfield, Va.
Hanscom FCU gets -- and gives -- awards
Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., won a silver MAC Award for community engagement from the Marketing Association of CUs for its efforts to support veterans. Separately, Hanscom sponsored a winning student in the Massachusetts Credit Unions Student Essay Contest.
LSCU's annual awards
The League of Southeastern CUs announced the recipients of the LSCU Awards during the 2017 Southeast Credit Union Conference. CU of the Year (up to $100 million in assets) was TMH FCU, Tallahassee, Fla., (pictured). Other CUs of the Year were Keys FCU, Key West, Fla., ($100 million to $500 million) and America’s First FCU, Birmingham, Ala. ($500 million+).
Advantage One a 'Bright Spot'
Advantage One CU, Brownstown, Mich., was recognized by Corp! Magazine as one of Michigan’s Economic Bright Spots for 2017.
Firefly shreds (and recycles)
Burnsville, Minn.-based Firefly CU partnered with Shred Right and Green Lights Recycling to host the CU’s annual Community Shred Event. Safe recycling took place at Firefly’s Burnsville, Bloomington, Fridley, Lakeville and Maple Grove locations.
