50th anniversary brunch
Columbus-based Credit Union of Ohio held a 50th anniversary branch celebration. All branches gave out cookies to members and staff enjoyed a catered lunch.
Best of the best
Ocala Community CU, Ocala, Fla., won the “Best of the Best” award in the category of credit unions operating in Ocala and Marion County, Fla., presented by the Ocala Star Banner.
Recognized for helping local nonprofits
Unitus Community CU, Portland, Ore., received a 2017 Corporate Philanthropy Award from the Portland Business Journal for the CU’s commitment to community support. For decades, Unitus has cultivated community partnerships with local nonprofit organizations helping people in need across the Northwest, from healthcare for sick children to stable housing for families.

Branch expansion continues
El Paso, Texas-based GECU’s branch expansion continued as it opened the doors of its new GECU Neighborhood Branch in the heart of Central El Paso. This is the first of its kind in the historic El Paso neighborhood and the 25th location for GECU.
Concert for hurricane victims
SPIRE Credit Union, Falcon Heights, Minn., was a sponsor of the MATTER Concert that ultimately raised $1.25 million. All proceeds from the benefit concert and gala were used to provide resources needed to assist the victims of the 2017 hurricanes in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
Millionaire's Club
Baltimore-based Securityplus FCU sponsored its first Millionaire's Club financial education experience. The new Club, at Milford Mill Academy, brings the total number of Millionaire's Clubs to 44.
Fishing Fest fundraiser
ABNB Federal Credit Union, Chesapeake, Va., said its 14th Annual Fishing Fest summer event and year-long fundraiser raised $94,000 for Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.
New office is 'best in class'
Pioneer West Virginia FCU, Charleston, W.Va., moved into its new main office in early 2017. The facility won the “Best in Class” honor for commercial buildings of less than $5 million at the Associated Builders and Contractors awards program.
Remodel completed
Wichita, Kan.-based Credit Union of America completely remodeled its branch in the Delano neighborhood of Wichita. The CU worked with design/build firm NewGround on a design that integrates technology for services and member information, adds efficiencies for teller transactions, and provides a warm and friendly atmosphere for member and staff interactions.

Animal rescue donation
Enbright CU (formerly known as Electric Service CU ), Nashville, Tenn., delivered $1,200 donated from Middle Tennessee-area credit unions to the emergency shelter of the Animal Rescue Corps in Lebanon, where hundreds of dogs and cats displaced by hurricanes were receiving housing and care.
Hurricane-relief donation
Great Lakes CU, Bannockburn, Ill., responded to those affected by hurricanes and wildfires last fall. The CU’s board approved a $2,500 donation to CUAid, which was followed by a Facebook fundraiser. For every like or share the post received, GLCU pledged $1 to CUAid. By the end of the fundraiser, the post received 417 likes and 191 shares, totaling $608.
