Kinecta's random acts of kindness

Kinecta FCU, Manhattan Beach, Calif., kicked off Random Acts of Kindness Week in a great way. Team Kinecta joined forces and made 140 goodie bags, decorated 25 candles, and had 40 employees sign up to venture out into the community to give back to others.

'Small Acts that Give Back'

Jeanne D’Arc CU, Lowell, Mass., launched its new community outreach initiative: Small Acts That Give Back, featuring random acts of kindness. The first was a visit to Market Basket in Lowell, where Jeanne D’Arc team members greeted nearly 100 shoppers at the entrance and throughout the store with a Market Basket gift card and a free reusable tote bag.

PSECU gives back

PSECU, Harrisburg, Pa., sponsored the 12th annual Pennsylvania Pink Zone, which raises awareness, funds and support for breast cancer research. In its third consecutive year of support, the CU increased its contribution from $1,000 in previous years to $3,000. Separately, for the third consecutive year, PSECU was named one of the Top 100 Organizations by Pennsylvania Business Central, and PSECU employees and their spouses were granted enhanced access to Harrisburg University of Science and Technology programs.

United Way donation

United FCU, St. Joseph, Mich., donated $5,000 to the United Way of Southwest Michigan and the Berrien Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund to help with the recovery needs of families impacted by flooding in Southwest Michigan.

CU on campus

Edgewood, Md.-based Aberdeen Proving Ground FCU is opening its first college-based branch this summer on the North East Campus of Cecil College to service the needs of students, faculty and staff. The location of this new branch was unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the first floor of the Technology Center, with college, credit union and county officials on hand.

Helping hungry students

In Herndon, Va., Northwest FCU’s NWFCU Foundation partnered with Odin, Feldman & Pittleman, PC to make a donation of $500 to the Weekend Meals Drive, which collects non-perishable food to be donated to local school programs that ensure students who rely on free and reduced-price school meals have food over the weekend.

People Driven breaks ground

Southfield, Mich.-based People Driven CU broke ground on a new location in Warren, Mich., that is expected to open this fall. The new branch will be located at the southwest corner of the Mound Road and 13 Mile intersection and will share a driveway with a Marathon gas station.

Brand new branch

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Community First CU opened its newly built Fleming Island branch. The branch replaces the former retail location on County Road 220. The freestanding branch is in front of the newly opened Fresh Market on a parcel Community First owns.

Hanscom helps out

Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., contributed $2,400 to the Airman Leadership School training program on Hanscom Air Force Base. Separately, Hanscom FCU won the Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award, and it donated $2,500 toward memorials for two airmen who lost their lives in Afghanistan.

Getting FIRED up

Staffers of FreeStar Financial CU, Clinton Township, Mich., donned bright red T-shirts emblazoned with “Get FiRED Up” on selected dates to solicit donations for the American Heart and American Stroke Associations. FreeStar Financial staff and members gave $1,250.

IMCU's got spirit!

Indianapolis-based Indiana Members CU presented a check for $3,557 to Roncalli High School in Indianapolis as part of an ongoing school spirit debit card program. Separately, IMCU gave $2,796 to Beech Grove City Schools in Beech Grove, Ind., and $2,306 to Westfield High School in Westfield, Ind., for their respective school spirit debit cards.

America’s Christian CU hosted its fourth annual pet adoption day, “Pause For Paws,” at its headquarters in Glendora, Calif. The event was free and open to the entire community.

GCS for pets

Employees of GCS Credit Union, Granite City, Ill., joined together to raise $1,165 in one month to benefit Partners for Pets. This non-profit organization is a no-kill animal shelter that seeks to rescue and find cats and dogs their forever home.

Nonprofit donation

The Helping Hands Foundation, a nonprofit founded in 2016 by Army Aviation Center FCU, Daleville, Ala., donated $10,000 to 19 different organizations in the Wiregrass communities as well as Mobile and Walton County, Florida.
