Remembering Our Veterans: In the Community

In Beaumont, Texas, while DuGood FCUs branches were closed for Veterans Day, the credit unions employees were hard at work serving the military throughout Southeast Texas, including several area nursing homes, all to thank veterans for their service.
FAA CU, Oklahoma City, had record-setting attendance and funds raised at its 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament for Children's Miracle Network. More than 100 golfers raised $28,157, with a $10,000 match from CO-OPs Miracle Match bringing the grand total to $38,157.
For the third consecutive year, First Service CU was named one of the top 100 places to work, according to the Houston Chronicle's 2015 Top Workplaces employee survey, ranking 20th out of the top 50 midsize employers in Houston.
Employees of Heritage Trust FCU, Summerville, S.C., donated more than 100 items to benefit the Frances R. Willis SPCA. The local shelter was devastated by a major flood and lost most of its food and pet-care supplies.
Employees of Kellogg Community FCU, Battle Creek, Mich., donated more than 1,000 lbs. of food to help those in need throughout the counties KCFCU serves have a Thanksgiving meal.
Altura CU, Riverside, Calif., sponsored the Riverside Latino Networks Youth Leadership Classes, which welcomed more than two dozen juniors and seniors from local high schools.

Staff at Catholic FCU, Saginaw, Mich., saluted local veterans and their families by donating 12 bags of food and non-perishable items along with a $100 monetary donation. Separately, employees Vicki Hill and Bridget Looby Staffileno received community awards.
Elevations CU, Boulder, Colo., was named a Best Company to Work For in Colorado by the Colorado Society for Human Resource Management. Elevations was the 5th place company in the large category (250 employees or more).
The Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation, Hanscom AFB, Mass., distributed nearly $200,000 in the past year, topped by $100,000 to the Home Base Foundation, a non-profit partnership between the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital to treat veterans. The CU also gave $45,000 to Boston Childrens Hospital to research childhood brain diseases.
Jeanne DArc CU, Lowell, Mass., held its sixth MoneyStrong for Life Fair at Dracut HS. Approximately 230 seniors enjoyed an eye-opening experience regarding careers, income and the high cost of being self-supporting.
Advia CU, Kalamazoo, Mich., held a Facebook contest that celebrated the advantages of membership. Luke Michael Scribner won a $500 shopping spree and designated a $500 donation to student council at his alma mater, F.J. Turner High School.
Georgia Heritage FCU, Savannah, Ga., won a CUNA Lending Council award in recognition of its small-dollar Life Line Loan program, which was developed in collaboration with the Filene Institute, Step Up Savannah and Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Savannah.
