Reducing death by house fires

Ventura County CU, Ventura, Calif., teamed up with the American Red Cross to install free smoke alarms in local homes at the Home Fire Campaign event. The campaign aims to reduce deaths and injuries from house fires by 25 percent by the end of 2019.

TruMark Financial CU, Fort Washington, Pa., allows its employees to wear jeans on Fridays in exchange for a donation to a charitable cause. The latest was the Bucks County Opportunity Council, which received $750. The Council’s mission is to reduce poverty and work with community partners to promote economic self-sufficiency.

Member One FCU, Roanoke, Va., donated more than 120 Easter baskets to children at Carilion Children’s Hospital. The entire credit union came together to create a variety of baskets for boys and girls of all ages.

The La Macchia Group, Milwaukee, Wis., won the Bronze Award in the Retail/Showroom category for the overall design and concept of its live branch transformation/remodel at Financial One CU in Coon Rapids, Minn.

Pay it forward

The CU Association of the Dakotas collected donations to meet the “needs list” from the Boys and Girls Club at the 2017 CUAD Summit in Deadwood, S.D. Keynote speaker Matt Tenney left stacks of his book Serve to be Great free for attendees if they pay it forward and make a donation to the Boys and Girls Club. This incredible act brought in an extra $647 in cash for the club.
