More than 30 employees from 15 credit unions in Orange, San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties in California, as well as four affiliated companies, come together to help others in a special “Credit Union Day of Service.”

Basketball with an international flair

Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., served as a sponsor for an International Basketball Tournament that brought together 10 teams who played 25 games in six days. The championship game went into overtime, where Team USA eked out an 87-86 win over Lithuania.

A decade long and going strong

Merrimack Valley CU, Lawrence, Mass., continued its decade-long sponsorship of the Merrimack College Athletics Partnership with a donation of $26,400.

Grand opening

Space Coast CU, Melbourne, Fla., celebrated the grand opening of its recently relocated branch on Patrick Air Force Base, home of the CU’s first location. There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by military representatives, SCCU members and SCCU leadership.

Days of giving

Robins Financial CU, Warner Robins, Ga., partnered with the Georgia State Patrol for a toy drive to benefit Toys for Tots. Approximately 200 toys were collected at Robins locations across Central Georgia to be given to needy children who would not otherwise have Christmas gifts. Separately, Robins continued its 25 Days of Holiday Giving.

Tinker FCU, Oklahoma City, Okla., gave Teacher of the Year awards to three outstanding financial educators in Oklahoma as part of the CU’s Teacher of the Year contest.

Holy Rosary CU, Rochester, N.H., concluded its 2016 Christmas Caring Campaign by recognizing seven more local nonprofit organizations with holiday donations.

EDGE donations for the holidays

For the 8th straight year, JetStream FCU, Miami Lakes, Fla., partnered with The EDGE for a holiday toy drive. The EDGE (The Early Development of Global Education) Charitable Foundation delivered toys to 3,000 local children, including migrant families, children victimized by domestic abuse and children victimized by human trafficking.

Classroom Heroes

Teachers throughout San Diego received resources to teach students about money and business thanks to San Diego County CU, the San Diego County Office of Education and the County of San Diego, which for the second year in a row partnered to promote the SDCCU Biz Kid$ program, which is part of SDCCU Classroom Heroes.

Parade participants

The Tell City location of Hoosier Hills CU, Bedford, Ind., participated in the 2016 Annual Christmas Parade in Cannelton, Ind., and was the overall winner of the parade. HHCU also entered a float in the 34th Annual Bedford Festival of Lights Christmas parade, and won Best Lighting.
