Big goals

During each Saturday home game for the Reading Royals’ 2016-2017 season, Diamond CU, Pottstown, Pa., held the Shoot For CommYOUNITY challenge. Twelve local charities were invited to come on the ice and shoot a puck into the net. Each organization was guaranteed a donation of $100, with bonuses for longer shots. In total, Diamond awarded $2,650 this season.

Crimestoppers donation

Robins Financial CU, Warner Robins, Ga., presented Macon Regional Crimestoppers with a $5,000 donation to the 11th Annual David Pierce Memorial Law Enforcement Dinner. The event is designed to help partner law enforcement, community and the media to help keep the community safe.

Santa Rosa, Calif.-based Redwood CU completed the remodel of its branch in Petaluma, Calif. Designed to better accommodate the changing ways people do their banking, the full-service branch features a technology bar for members to access online banking and information.

Hopewell's groundbreaking

Hopewell FCU, Heath, Ohio, began a new chapter in its history with the ceremonial ground breaking of its newest office in Johnstown, Ohio. The 2,100-square-foot building will be the 3rd office in HFCU’s portfolio. Construction will be complete in late 2017.

Pregnancy center donation

United FCU, St. Joseph, Mich., donated $1,400 to the Pregnancy Care Center of Niles. PCC provides parenting and couples classes, pregnancy testing, counseling, and medical services—including ultrasounds—free of charge to their clients. It also offers help with adoption planning.

Teaching healthy habits

San Antonio-based Security Service FCU’s Charitable Foundation donated $2,500 to help fund the Early Child Development Program at Su Casa de Esperanza, which will teach healthy eating and exercise habits to mothers and toddlers in the Rio Grande Valley.

Financial reality fair

More than 100 Perry High School sophomores received a dose of financial reality at an event organized by LAFCU, Lansing, Mich. The two-hour Financial Reality Fair simulated one month of independent adult living.

St. Mary’s Bank, Manchester, N.H., was recognized by New Hampshire Housing as one of New Hampshire’s top 10 housing lenders of 2016.

Project Elf

NorthRidge Community CU, Hoyt Lakes, Minn., and the East Range Rotary Club presented a check for $1,218 to Project Elf. The East Range Rotary and NRCCU partnered to match any donations made at all four NorthRidge branches, $1 for $1, with all proceeds benefiting the Project Elf’s 2017 season, helping less fortunate families.

Random acts of kindness

The Random Acts of Kindness campaign by Great Lakes CU, Bannockburn, Ill., continued as employees handed out McDonald’s and Dunkin Donuts gift cards to 47 people who visited the CU’s branch in North Chicago one day.

Scholarship winners

Air Force FCU, San Antonio, announced its 2017 scholarship award winners at its annual meeting. Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each were awarded to three graduating high school seniors.

Greater Texas CU, Austin, Texas, raised a total of $2,063.66 for the Special Olympics of Texas through employee fundraising.
