Tropical Financial CU, Miramar, Fla., named Fort Myers real estate agent Gail Doxie as its 2016 Local Hero. Doxie was selected for her work helping war veterans recover from mental health issues related to their service in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Unsung heroes

CorePlus FCU, Norwich, Conn., held its seventh “Unsung Heroes Recognition” event on WINY 1350AM, which let callers name an unsung hero in their community. For each call received, CorePlus donated $25 to a local charity for a grand total of $3,175.

Scholarship

Pauline Rayes won the 2016 Dianne Addington Community Leadership Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Genisys CU, Auburn Hills, Mich., funds the annual award in honor of its former president and CEO, Dianne Addington, who retired in 2010.

Coins for cystic fibrosis

Army Aviation Center FCU, Daleville, Ala., helped students of Corpus Christi Catholic School count $2,700 in coins collected for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. AACFCU is a supporter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and has supported its Great Strides Walk in Mobile and Dothan for six years. In 2016, AACFCU donated $21,441 to CFF.

American Heritage FCU, Philadelphia, participated in the Ronald McDonald House’s “Show Your Stripes” Day. For $10 each, employees were given the opportunity to wear red and white striped socks or a “Show Your Stripes” t-shirt to support the Ronald McDonald House.

Robins Financial CU, Warner Robins, Ga., held two of its popular Shred Day events, as Central Georgia residents shredded 15,000 pounds – or 7.5 tons – of sensitive documents.
