Clearview FCU, Moon Township, Pa., presented a $9,880 donation to JDRF of Western Pennsylvania as part of the Points for Pediatrics program with the University of Pittsburgh. Clearview pledged to donate $40 for each three-point basket made by the Pitt men’s basketball team during the 2016-2017 regular season games: Pitt players made a total of 247 three-point baskets.

South Bend, Ind.-based Teachers CU pledged ongoing financial support of the urban educational ecosystem known as Unity Gardens, and its new Community Learning Center. TCU gave $5,000 to Unity Gardens’ building fund.

As communities in the Carolinas continue with Hurricane Matthew recovery efforts, the Carolinas CU Foundation presented a donation of $20,000 to the Disaster Relief Fund at North Carolina Community Foundation and $20,000 to the One SC Relief Fund, housed at the Central Carolina Community Foundation.

The event, which was coordinated with Iron Mountain and Northwoods Mall, saw participants securely shred 6,000 lbs. of documents, including expired debit and credit cards, medical bills, receipts, tax statements, credit card offers and more.

Earth Day celebration sponsor

PSECU, Harrisburg, Pa., was a sponsor of the 2017 Mechanicsburg Earth Day Festival. PSECU sponsored the performance stage, which hosted five different live performances, and a complimentary shredding event, provided by Shred-it. The event collected approximately 2,700 lbs. of paper for recycling, which saved 13 trees.

Pelican State celebrates flood recovery

In the great flood of 2016, Baton Rouge, La.-based Pelican State CU saw its Denham Springs branch inundated with four feet of water. After months of work, the CU celebrated the Grand Re-Opening of the branch by offering members a chance to win thousands of dollars in prizes, including an all-you-can-grab, two-minute “Pack Your Pantry” supermarket shopping spree.

MAX's sweet 16th (branch)

MAX CU, Montgomery, Ala., celebrated the opening of its 16th branch, this one inside Baptist South Morrow Tower, and Nurse Appreciation Week. MAX honored nurses at Baptist South throughout the week with various incentives and by offering 400 Frio’s Gourmet Pops. Separately, the CU awarded 10 local high school seniors $25,000 to further their education.

Evergreen gets LEED certified

Portland, Maine-based Evergreen CU opened a new branch in Windham, Maine, replacing a smaller facility. The branch is LEED-certified, thanks to a geothermal heat exchange that keeps the building cool in the summer and warm in the winter, lighting that uses less energy, fixtures that reduce daily water consumption, and use of non-toxic or recycled materials.
