Nutmeg State expands

Nutmeg State Financial CU, headquartered in Rocky Hill, Conn., held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest location inside a ShopRite in Orange, Conn. Orange Chamber of Commerce members and the town’s Economic Development Fund representatives joined Nutmeg State staff to celebrate the CU’s first branch in New Haven County.

Birmingham, Ala.-based America’s First FCU, in partnership with WBRC FOX6 News, honored 30 high school seniors for being part of the Rising Star program (excellence in academics, leadership and community involvement), and it awarded 4 scholarships totaling $20,000.

Proclamations from the credit union’s mayor

Mendell Thompson, CEO of Glendora, Calif.-based America’s Christian CU, and also Glendora’s Mayor Pro Tem, issued a proclamation establishing May as Foster Care Awareness Month at a city council meeting. ACCU has helped remove financial barriers to adoption for more than 1,500 families since 2009. Separately, ACCU held its Patriot Week festivities to honor local veterans, U.S. military and first-responders.
