Go blue or go green?

The Michigan-Michigan State football rivalry gave employees of Zeal CU, Livonia, Mich., a chance to turn passion for their favorite team into a “penny war” fundraiser for hurricane relief. Staffers dressed down to support their favorite school for donating spare change. More than $760 was raised, with Michigan fans donating $425.29 and MSU fans donating $335.96.

Recognizing firefighters and EMTs

Grand Blanc, Mich.-based Dort FCU and the Flint Firebirds junior ice hockey team honored emergency medical personnel, firefighters, police officers, sheriff’s deputies and the Bishop International Airport Police Department at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center. On display were local law-enforcement vehicles, fire trucks and EMT vehicles.

Neighbors gives back

The Neighbors Capital Area Foundation’s “Clays For A Cause,” event raised $18,862 for the Mental Health Association for Greater Baton Rouge. The Neighbors Capital Area Foundation is an initiative by Neighbors FCU, Baton Rouge, La., to provide support for local organizations.

Branch renovation

Plymouth, Minn.-based TruStone CU renovated its branch in Kenosha, Wis., to better serve its Wisconsin members. The branch, located at 6715 Green Bay Road, now features updated technology, a new open concept layout and a refreshed interior design.

Camp WINGS

Robins Financial CU, Warner Robins, Ga., sponsored Camp WINGS by contributing to the Heart of Georgia Hospice. Camp WINGS is held for youth ages 6-16 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. In addition to normal camp activities, the children receive free grief counselling while living among people their own age who have experienced similar situations.

American Heritage staffers show their stripes

Philadelphia-based American Heritage CU participated in the Ronald McDonald House’s “Show Your Stripes Day.” Employees were given the opportunity to purchase red and white striped socks or scarves, or a “Show Your Stripes” t-shirt or Sock Monkey to support the Ronald McDonald House. Separately, the CU hosted a blood drive that drew 33 donors.

PSECU celebrates and donates

Harrisburg, Pa.-based PSECU hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest Financial Education Center, which opened at West Chester University. The center is the 22nd the CU has opened at higher education institutions. Separately, PSECU distributed checks totaling $170,000 to support the 2017 hurricane relief efforts of eight national and international charities.

CU at Catie's Closet

Jeanne D’Arc CU, Lowell, Mass., sponsored the 10th Catie’s Closet in New Hampshire schools, the latest at Sunset Heights Elementary School in Nashua, N.H. Catie’s Closet provides students with in-school access to clothing and basic necessities, free of charge.

Maxwell and Herring honors for Hanscom FCU

Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., earned top honors for its commitment to social responsibility from the Cooperative Credit Union Association. The CCUA presented the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award and the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Member Service Award for the state of Massachusetts to Hanscom FCU.

Nassau Financial FCU, Westbury, N.Y., continued its partnership with Solar Installer SunPower by EmPower Solar by presenting the first Long Island Solar Loan Program together at the annual Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay N.Y. Each year, more than 200,000 attendees over the course of two days visit the East Coast’s largest waterfront festival.
