Sen. Johnson Hires a Top Aide

Dwight Fettig, a longtime former aide to Sen. Tim Johnson, has returned to Capitol Hill to work for the South Dakota Democrat as a senior policy adviser, Johnson's office confirmed Wednesday.

Johnson is expected to become chairman of the Senate Banking Committee next year and is likely to choose Fettig as the committee's staff director. Fettig worked more than 14 years for Johnson, including eight years as his legislative director. He left that role in 2003.

Most recently he was a partner in the Washington government relations firm of Porterfield, Lowenthal & Fettig, which he joined last year. Before joining Porterfield & Lowenthal, Fettig was a senior policy and legislative adviser at Arnold & Porter LLP. Previously he was a senior director of government and industry relations at Freddie Mac.
