Ahmanson Thrift Names Ex-Avco Exec To Head Originations

Los Angeles-based Home Savings America, the nation's largest thrift, named William A. Barrett as executive vice president in charge of home-mortgage originations.

Mr. Barrett has been president of international finance operations for Avco Financial Services, a large finance company based in Irvine, Calif. He fills a vacancy created when Dallis Brewer was reassigned to oversee foreclosed properties.

Charles Rinehart, the president of Home's parent, H.F. Ahmanson & Co., came from Avco in December 1989. He had been its president.

Mr. Barrett, 47, had been responsible for all of Avco's lending operations outside the United States, including those in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. He joined Avco in 1967 and at one point was vice president of real estate operations at its Southern California headquarters.
