AIG Chooses a Permanent CFO

American International Group Inc. has announced the promotion of David L. Herzog to executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Mr. Herzog is responsible for financial operations across all AIG business units and report to chairman and chief executive officer Edward M. Liddy, the company said on Thursday. Mr. Herzog will also take a central role in overseeing AIG's plan to address its capital structure and pay down the credit facility from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

He succeeded Steven J. Bensinger, who had been acting chief financial officer since May. Mr. Bensinger has left AIG to pursue other opportunities, the company said.

Mr. Herzog, 48, had been a senior vice president and comptroller at AIG since June 2005.
