AmerUs in Des Moines Picks New President

AmerUs Bank (formerly Midland Savings Bank), Des Moines, has named Marcia S. Hanson president.

Ms. Hanson, who was president and chief executive officer of Firstar Bank Des Moines, succeeds Fred Moore, who has been president of the bank since April 1993.

Mr. Moore continues as president and chief operating officer of the AmerUs Group, the bank's parent company.

Ms. Hanson is a 16-year veteran of the banking industry. She has worked as senior vice president for two years with Firstar Corp. of Iowa and senior vice president for two years with Firstar Bank Madison. Ms. Hanson joined Firstar in 1989, after a three-year stint with Marquette Bank and seven years with First Bank System in Minneapolis.

"This is a great opportunity. AmerUs Bank is breaking ranks with the traditional notions of banking, and I'm excited to be a part of that change," said Ms. Hanson.

Before starting her banking career, Ms. Hanson was academic dean at Saint Mary's Junior College in Minneapolis.
