Amex Hires Laureen Seeger as General Counsel

American Express has hired Laureen Seeger as its new general counsel.

Seeger will oversee the credit card company's legal, compliance and ethics and corporate secretary organizations. She will assume responsibility for the company's federal and state government affairs later this year.

She will report directly to Kenneth Chenault, chairman and chief executive of American Express.

Seeger previously served as general counsel and chief compliance officer at McKesson Corp., a health services company based in San Francisco. Before that, she was a commercial litigation partner at Morris, Manning & Martin, a law firm in Atlanta.

"We are excited to have one of the world's top legal leaders become general counsel of American Express," Chenault said in a June 23 press release.

She succeeds Louise Parent, who retired last year after 37 years with the company.
