Austin Telco Federal Credit Union named Robert Hernandez as its new president and CEO.
Hernandez has served as chief financial officer for the $2.4 billion-asset credit union since 2010. Prior to that, he was CFO with Greater Texas Federal Credit Union, which is also based in Austin.
He replaces James Poplin, who announced his retirement as the credit union’s leader in April. Poplin had been with Austin Telco for nearly 40 years.
“Robert is an experienced financial services industry executive with more than 20 years of success in high-profile leadership roles,” Chairman Steve Read said in a press release. “Robert is extraordinarily qualified to lead us on our continuing journey of exceptional member experience, growth and new opportunities for the credit union and our members.”
Austin Telco FCU earned $6.4 million in the first three months of 2022, a 34% increase compared to a year earlier, according to call report data from the National Credit Union Administration.
