Elizabeth Warren remains a big draw in the town she left last year to embark on her U.S. Senate campaign.

At a campaign fundraiser Wednesday for young professionals in Washington, the Massachusetts Democrat attracted a crowd of 350 people to the headquarters of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

The attendees included numerous employees of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the agency that Warren created, according to one person who was in attendance.

Warren spoke for about 15 minutes about opportunity in the United States, saying she wants her grandchildren to have the same chances that she and her brothers did, the attendee said.

Tickets to the event started at $50, which means that Warren netted at least $17,500 from the event. For $250, guests could attend a VIP reception, and for $1,000 they could chair the fundraiser, according to an invitation posted by the Sunlight Foundation.

Through Dec. 31, Warren had raised $8.9 million, just ahead of the $8.6 million raised by her Republican opponent, Sen. Scott Brown. The Massachusetts race is expected to be one of the most expensive Senate campaigns ever.
