Bank Insurance Trade Association Rallies Troops to Defend Their Rights

The Association of Banks in Insurance wants to strike back against insurance groups that are trying to block annuity and insurance sales in banks.

In a recent letter, the association recommended that its members adopt "a proactive posture toward the rights of banks to market insurance."

The Washington-based organization, which counts 202 banks as members, included with the letter a packet to help banks make their case.

The kit includes:

*A directory of this session's members of Congress, including instructions for contacting them.

*Instructions for sending Western Union messages to Congress or state legislators as challenges arise.

*Sample letters to be sent to state insurance commissioners supporting the rights of banks to sell insurance.

*Camera-ready art for postcards that bank officers, directors, employees, and shareholders can mail to legislators.

*Pamphlets that describe what banks are already doing with insurance and annuities.
