Bank of the West, San Francisco, a subsidiary of BancWest Corp., has hired Gordon Smith as compliance manager and a senior vice president.
Banque Nationale de Paris owns $5.8 billion-asset BancWest, which First Hawaiian Corp. last month signed a definitive agreement to buy for $1 billion.
Mr. Smith came from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, where he was a vice president of banking supervision and regulation and earlier vice president of credit policy and consumer affairs and assistant general counsel.
Bank of the West also hired Ron Altman as a vice president and promoted assistant vice presidents Rebecca Angeli-Just, Laverne Gail Fontana, Peter Demopoulos, Denise Eckhardt, and Linda Pass to vice president and branch manager.
Mr. Altman is the bank's marketing representative in consumer lending. He had been an assistant vice president at Chase Financial Corp., and before that a regional account coordinator at NationsCredit Corp.
Ms. Angeli-Just manages the St. Helena branch, Ms. Fontana the North Stockton branch, Mr. Demopoulos the Serramonte branch, Ms. Eckhardt the Clearlake branch, and Ms. Pass the Citrus Heights branch.
