BBVA Compass has leased space in the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce building for a loan production office.
The office is scheduled to open this summer, BBVA said in a news release. Birmingham, Ala.-based BBVA plans to hire commercial bankers for this office, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.
BBVA has also received regulatory approval to launch other loan production offices in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Nashville, Tenn., Columbus, Ohio, and Raleigh, N.C.
BBVA, which is the U.S. unit of Spain's Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, had assets of $72 billion at yearend.
"BBVA Compass' expansion into Charlotte speaks to the strengths of our financial services sector as well as the city's thriving international presence," said Bob Morgan, president of the Charlotte chamber.
BBVA operates 685 branches, with 350 in Texas, 90 in Alabama, 78 in Arizona, 64 in California, 45 in Florida, 38 in Colorado and 20 in New Mexico.
