Boston sports arena gets Shawmut name.

BOSTON -- The new sports arena in Boston will be named the Shawmut Center as a result of a 15-year marketing agreement between Shawmut Bank of Boston and the developer, Delaware North.

The Shawmut National Corp. subsidiary, which participated with other banks in financing the construction, said it expects to enhance its brand name and overall marketing program by being associated with the successor to Boston Garden.

Financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed. It is similar to that between Great Western Bank and the Forum in Los Angeles, a basketball-hockey arena known as Great Western Forum.
