The $1.4 billion-asset American National said it was interested in acquiring the $161 million-asset Bryant-Irvin and its Citizens National Bank in Fort Worth to establish itself in Tarrant County, one of Texas' most vibrant markets.

American National has leased office space for a branch it plans to open in Fort Worth this summer.

Raymond G. Dickerson, Bryant-Irvin's president and chief executive, would become American National's Fort Worth market president. Perry Ginn would remain American National's regional president of Tarrant and Johnson counties.

The deal is expected to close by Oct. 31. The price was not disclosed.
