Capital Briefs: Bank, Thrift Agencies Plan an April Summit

The federal banking and thrift agencies are planning a major pow-wow for April 1 to 3, their first regulatory summit since 1991.

"We'll get together for a three-day conference in an effort to assure a consistent level of cooperation," said Ricki Helfer, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and host of the event. "This will allow us to get our act together inside the Beltway."

The meeting will include the top managers from FDIC, the Office of Thrift Supervision, the Federal Reserve Board, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Ms. Helfer said the joint approach to the revised Community Reinvestment Act rules, which produced a uniform regulation, convinced her that the agencies need to meet more often.
