A 24-page supplement in Wednesday's Washington Post urged people to support a bill allowing credit unions to serve employees at multiple companies.

The insert, sponsored by the D.C. Credit Union League, included several articles attacking the banking industry's legal battle to restrict credit union growth.

Headlines included: "Have a Voice to Preserve Your Choice," "Don't Spend Your Money to Get Your Money," and "Tens of Millions Have Financial Stakes in Supreme Court Case." It also listed the phone numbers for the Capitol Hill offices of lawmakers.

"We wanted to let consumers know how they can be politically active in protecting their right to deal with a nonprofit entity," said Maria Arnold, a spokeswoman for the D.C. league, who added this is the fourth straight year the group has published the supplement.

The Supreme Court is expected to decide early next year whether all members of occupation-based credit unions must share a single, common bond. Also, Congress is considering a bill that would void the court battle by authorizing credit unions to serve multiple companies.
