Card Briefs: Arkansas Systems Signs Romanian Bank

LITTLE ROCK - Arkansas Systems Inc. said it has signed a contract with the Romanian Commercial Bank in Bucharest to provide its Integrated Transaction Management software. The company said the system will enable the bank to become the first in Romania to provide automated teller machine and Visa International debit card services.

The bank is installing 60 ATMs and will issue Visa debit cards and proprietary ATM cards. The ATM system will provide card users with screens in Romanian, French, and English.

Romanian Commercial Bank will become the country's first bank to connect with Romcard, a gateway to the Visa electronic fund transfer network. Arkansas Systems' EFT Online Network Connection System will provide the link.

Customers will have worldwide access to funds 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the Visa network. Currently, all retail banking transactions in Romania are conducted through tellers.

Arkansas Systems, a privately held software company, said it has introduced ATM software technology in Russia and Lithuania. Also, the company said it has installed national EFT networks in Bolivia, Costa Rica, Guam, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Indonesia, Russia, and the United States.
