Card Briefs: Associates to Manage BP Amoco Program

Associates First Capital Corp. has made a deal to manage the U.S. proprietary credit card program of BP Amoco.

Associates has issued Amoco's cobranded cards since 1984. It bought its private-label card portfolio in September 1994.

Amoco and British Petroleum merged in December 1998, forming BP Amoco, based in London. There are 16,300 BP and Amoco gasoline stations in the United States and 12,000 others abroad.

Associates First, with $10 billion of credit card receivables, is the largest manager of private-label oil and gas cards, with nine million Amoco, Texaco, and Shell accounts.
