Card Briefs: Visa Airs TV Ad For Winter Olympics

Visa U.S.A. premiered its first advertising spot for the 1998 Winter Olympic Games during a televised college football game last month.

The ad features U.S. Olympic hopefuls in figure skating, skiing, and luge declaring their individual goals for the events in Nagano, Japan.

Visa's second Olympics-related ad will highlight the company's new six- year partnership with USA Hockey and will make its debut just before the Winter Games.

Visa is also promoting a program called "Visa Pull for the Team," in which the company has pledged to make a donation to the U.S. Olympic Committee based on card use. The minimum donation will be $2.5 million, the company said.

In a separate announcement, Visa has teamed with the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau to offer the "Visa preferred in San Diego for the holidays" brochure.

Through Jan. 15, consumers can earn discounts at more than 75 San Diego- area hotels when they pay with Visa cards.

Discounts are also available at local restaurants, shopping centers, and tourist attractions, such as Sea World and the San Diego Wild Animal Park.
