Cardtronics Swings to a Profit

Cardtronics Inc. swung into the black in the first quarter, driven by strong transaction volume growth.

The Houston automated teller machine operator reported a profit of $4.2 million, compared with a loss of $5 million a year earlier. Revenue increased 11%, to $127.8 million.

Cardtronics said total cash withdrawals at its ATMs increased by 6%, cash withdrawal transactions per ATM increased by 4%, and total transactions per ATM rose 7% during the quarter. The company announced the results Thursday.
