Chase Manhattan Corp. recently said it had been appointed trustee for Ingersoll-Rand Co.'s 401(k) plan.

Neil T. Henderson, senior vice president of Chase's global securities services unit, said in a press statement that the contract was the second major 40 1 (k) deal the bank has landed since June.

The bank said its ability to automatically process electronically transmitted data helped it win the appointment.

Woodcliff Lake, N.J.-based Ingersoll-Rand has more than 35,000 employees, and is a leading maker of various types of equipment, including air compressors, construction and mining equipment, power tools, and door locks.
