Chemung in N.Y. Hires Chief Financial Officer

Chemung Financial (CHMG) in Elmira, N.Y., has named a new chief financial officer.

Karl Krebs has joined the $1.3 billion-asset company and its banking unit as CFO and treasurer, it announced Thursday. He succeeds Mark Severson, who resigned from the roles in September, and interim CFO and Treasurer John Battersby.

Krebs had been CFO of Financial Institutions Inc., in Warsaw, N.Y., since 2009. Earlier in his career he worked at banks including Goldome Bank, KeyCorp (KEY) and HSBC.

"The depth and breadth of [Krebs'] banking experience will have a positive impact on our management team and we look forward to his contributions towards the future success of our organization," Chemung Chief Executive Ronald Bentley said in a news release.

Chemung has 218 branches in upstate New York. It agreed to buy six branches from Bank of America (BAC) in July.
