Communities First in California Hires New Chief

Communities First Financial in Fresno, Calif., has a new chief executive.

The $257 million-asset company said in a press release Friday that Steve Miller had also become its president and will join its board.

Miller previously ran commercial banking at Alliance Financial Group. He succeeded Steve Canfield, the company’s chief financial officer, who had been serving as interim CEO.

Communities First has been on the hunt for a new chief executive since Rick Whitsell left in July. The company said Whitsell left due to “strategic differences,” adding that his departure was a “mutual decision,” according to The Fresno Bee.

Communities First went public in November.
