Datacard Revises PIN Encoder

Datacard Group announced Monday the launch of its SuperCAT II card encoder, which allows bank customers to select or change a card's PIN at a branch.

The vendor's card-encoding device works with its CardWizard instant issuance software to allow the full reissuance of a card at a branch if a customer's earlier card is lost or stolen. The encoder works with magnetic stripe cards, EMV-compliant chip cards and contactless cards.

"Cards that are instantly issued with a customer-selected PIN elevate to 'top-of-wallet' status and are used more often," Ron Zanotti, the senior vice president of financial instant issuance for Datacard, of Minnetonka, Minn., said in a press release.

Being able to reissue a card or change its PIN on demand also reduces the costs and risks associated with mailing a new card or PIN to the end user, Datacard said.

A card and PIN activated with the encoder can be used immediately.
