A Bangladeshi bank is now charging customers a fee to issue paper receipts at its automated teller machines.
Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd. levies a fee of about 43 cents after the ATM notifies customers and they agree to accept it.
A spokesman said the fee was introduced Jan. 15 in response to rising costs.
"The paper for ATMs, which was imported from Singapore, is now being imported from a costlier vendor," he said. "In any case, the charges always remain changeable under our terms and conditions."
The fee has generated consumer criticism in the press.
Dutch-Bangla also charges a $2.90 annual service fee for its ATM cards, and another $6.66 annually for savings accounts, the spokesman said.
