EMC Rolls Out PCI Service

EMC Corp., a security technology company, has started a service to help merchants achieve compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.

The service is also designed to prepare companies for PCI-compliance assessments and to help them develop plans for managing breaches, said Branden Williams, the Hopkinton, Mass., company's director of security consulting.

The service, announced Dec. 15, will examine a company's infrastructure for its compliance with PCI standards and other measures, Williams said.

In the event of a breach, EMC's third leg of consulting offers post-breach forensic assistance and guideline development to lessen the likelihood that a similar breach will happen again, Williams said.

"It's less about creating a program specifically for PCI compliance, but about a compliance function within the company," he said.
