Private Bancorp Inc. of Chicago has hired C. Brant Ahrens as its chief operating officer.

Ahrens will remain the chief strategy and marketing officer for the $10.4 billion-asset company. He joined Private Bancorp in 2007. Before that he was the group senior vice president and head of LaSalle Bank's financial institutions group. Earlier he was the head of LaSalle's international corporate group.


SOUTHEAST

Middleburg Financial Corp. in Virginia has hired Raj Mehra as its executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Mehra was the president of Chelsea Advisory Services LLP, a financial risk and forensic accounting firm he founded. Before that he was the chief financial officer of Urban Trust Bank. Earlier he was a senior manager at Ernst & Young LLP.

Middleburg Financial has $1 billion of assets.


Superior Bank of Birmingham, Ala., has promoted C. Marvin Scott to chief executive and Rick D. Gardner to president.

Scott joined the $3.1 billion-asset company as president of the bank in 2005. In 2004 he was the president of Silver Acquisition Corp., in Overland Park, Kan. Before that he had been president and chief operating officer at Superior Financial Corp. in Arkansas since 1998.

Gardner joined Superior Bank in 2005 as chief operating officer.


BankUnited of Coral Gables, Fla., has hired Gary Ladolcetta as executive vice president of corporate and commercial banking and Raymond S. Barbone as the executive vice president of mortgage services.

Ladolcetta managed the wholesale banking group at TD Bank. Before that he was vice president of syndications and investment banking at Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi in New York.

Barbone was group senior vice president for operations at ABN Amro Mortgage Group in Jacksonville, Fla.

Before that he was the controller at Atlantic Mortgage and Investment Corp. Earlier he was Atlantic's senior vice president of loan administration.

BankUnited has $11.2 billion of assets.
