Commercial Bankshares Inc. of Miami has named Bruce P. Steinberger the president and secretary of the company and its $1.1 billion-asset Commercial Bank of Florida.
He succeeded Jack J. Partagas, who died Sept. 30. Mr. Partagas also had been the chief financial officer of the company and the bank, but Commercial Bankshares said it has no plans to fill those jobs.
Mr. Steinberger was an executive vice president and the chief lending officer of the bank, which he joined 10 years ago.
Before that he had been an executive vice president at Intercontinental Bank of Miami, which NationsBank Corp. (now Bank of America Corp.) bought in 1995.
Commercial Bankshares also said it has named Barbara E. Reed an executive vice president of the company and the bank and Dennis Longo an executive vice president at the bank. Both had been senior vice presidents.
Ms. Reed remains the chief financial officer of the company and the bank; Mr. Longo remains the head of information technology and operations at the bank.
MIDWESTPrivateBank in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., has rehired Steven F. Milbeck as its senior trust officer.
Mr. Milbeck, who has also been named a managing director, had led the PrivateBancorp Inc. unit's trust department until 2004, when he left to join Auto Club Trust of Dearborn. He had been the thrift's chief trust and operating officer.
He began his 20-year private banking career as an assistant vice president in Comerica Bank's private banking division. He left the Detroit bank as a group manager of its institutional trust division in 1999 to join PrivateBank.
In addition to its Michigan operations, the $3.7 billion-asset PrivateBancorp has units in St. Louis and Chicago that use the PrivateBank name.
MIDDLE ATLANTICSandy Spring Bancorp of Olney, Md., has hired Michael A. Bateman as its senior vice president of corporate development.
Since 1988 Mr. Bateman had been a vice president in the financial institutions division at Manufacturers and Traders Trust Co., managing sales and services to financial institutions in its Middle Atlantic region.
He has 30 years of banking experience.
