Salisbury Bancorp Inc. of Lakeville, Conn., has named Richard J. Cantele Jr. as its interim chief financial officer.

Cantele has been president and chief operating officer of the $495 million-asset Salisbury Bancorp Inc. and a director of its Salisbury Bank and Trust Co. since 2005.

He has succeeded John Francis Foley, who had been the chief financial officer of the company and bank until his death July 7. He was 58.

Foley had been CFO and treasurer of the bank and company since 2005. He had been an officer of the company since 1998 and of the bank since 1986. He had worked for Salisbury Bank and Trust Co. for 27 years.


MIDWESTFirstMerit Corp. of Akron has hired Sean P. Richardson as regional commercial banking executive for the north coast.

Before joining FirstMerit, Richardson was the executive vice president and managing director of corporate banking middle market northcoast-east team for National City Corp. of Cleveland. Richardson has 24 years of experience in serving and advising owner-managed businesses in the northern Ohio market.

FirstMerit has $11 billion of assets.


MIDDLE ATLANTICCNB Financial Corp. of Clearfield, Pa., announced that William F. Falger is retiring at yearend as president and chief executive officer of the company and its CNB Bank.

Falger will remain a director of the company and CNB Bank.Falger had been the president and CEO of the $1 billion-asset CNB Financial since January 2001 and of CNB Bank since January 1993.

The company hired Joseph B. Bower Jr. to succeed Falger as president and CEO of both CNB Financial Corp. and CNB Bank. Bower had been executive vice president and chief operating officer of CNB Bank and secretary of CNB Financial Corp. since 2003.

 


 Provident Financial Services Inc. of Jersey City said Linda A. Niro, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Provident Financial Services Inc. and its subsidiary, Provident Bank, will retire on Sept. 29.

Thomas M. Lyons, the first vice president and chief accounting officer of Provident Bank, has been appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer of both the $6.5 billion-asset Provident Financial Services Inc. and Provident Bank upon Niro's retirement.

Niro had been executive vice president and chief financial officer of Provident Financial Services Inc. and executive vice president and chief financial officer of Provident Bank since 2007. She had been chief financial officer of Provident Financial Services Inc. since its formation 2003. Before that she had been Provident Bank's CFO since 2000. Lyons joined Provident Financial and Provident Bank in 2004, when the company bought his previous employer, First Sentinel Bancorp Inc. He had been executive vice president and CFO at First Sentinel.


SOUTHWESTWhitney National Bank, a subsidiary of Whitney Holding Corp. of New Orleans, has hired Robert Timothy Watson as senior vice president and director of corporate treasury.

Watson had been senior vice president and treasurer of BankAtlantic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Before joining BankAtlantic he was managing director at JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Whitney National Bank has $12 billion of assets.
