Senator Carl Levin thinks that banks should be forced to allow consumers to "opt in" to any type of overdraft program because of what he perceives as abusive overdraft programs.
Would he allow us to "opt in" to any type of federal taxation program because of what we perceive as an abusive federal taxation program?
It is very simple for consumers to avoid any and all overdraft fees - accurate addition and subtraction. Paying an overdraft entails a significant amount of risk for the banking industry. Perhaps the better solution is to return and charge for every item that would overdraw an account. More unintended consequences brought about by legislation and regulation.
