Kennedy was named a director of the Jacksonville, Fla., banking technology company in 2006 and was its president and chief executive until October, when FIS acquired Metavante Technologies Inc. Frank Martire, Metavante's chairman and CEO, was then named FIS' chief executive.

Kennedy played a key role in putting together that acquisition, which made FIS the world's biggest banking technology vendor.

He was previously the chairman and CEO of the transaction processor Certegy Inc., which FIS acquired in 2006.
