Fifth Third Bancorp (FITB) has brought in an executive from global giant Standard Chartered Bank to head its international banking operations.
The Cincinnati company announced Monday that it has tapped Jan-Erik Andersen as group head of international banking, a newly created post based in New York. In his new role, Andersen will oversee Fifth Third’s international corporate banking and trade finance divisions, which cater to U.S. and foreign companies that engage in global trade.
Andersen has more than 20 years of international banking experience, most recently serving as head of origination and client coverage, and co-head of wholesale banking in Southeast Asia and the Americas for London-based Standard Chartered. Before joining Standard Chartered he held a number of positions at Bank One (now part of JPMorgan Chase), and its predecessor, First National Bank of Chicago, including regional executive for Europe.
“Jan-Erik, with his wealth of global sales and management experience, is an excellent addition to our international banking team,” Greg Kosch, an executive vice president and head of commercial banking at the $117 billion-asset Fifth Third, said in a news release. “He brings a great deal of experience in international credit services and relationship management [and] has a strong understanding of the unique financial challenges faced by foreign companies and U.S.-based companies doing business overseas.”
